STEVE Evans has said Colwyn Bay FC will “always hold a place in my heart” following his departure as the club’s manager.

The Seagulls parted company with the former Wales international following relegation from the JD Cymru Premier.

Evans’ departure was confirmed only a few hours after Bay’s 1-0 win against Barry Town United last Sunday (April 21).

The ex-Wrexham defender had guided Bay to the JD Cymru North title last season to secure promotion to the top flight.

“I have enjoyed my time at Colwyn Bay. I've met a lot of special people and made friends for life,” Evans said in a statement.

“The club will always hold a place in my heart. I'm proud of what we achieved in such a short time.

“The memories will be with me forever. We had some good times.

“I'm disappointed I didn't get the opportunity to right the wrongs of this season, but that's football and I respect the club’s decision and wish them all the very best going forward.”

Evans also paid tribute to Neil Coverley, who has stepped down as the club’s chairman.

“I'd like to thank Neil Coverley for everything during my time. The work we put in is something I'm proud of,” Evans added.

“I'd like to thank all my staff for all the efforts during my time. - my players, for giving me everything.

“And finally, all the volunteers and the Seagulls fans who are the heartbeat of the club.

“I know this season has been tough. I hope you know that myself, my staff and my players gave you everything. Hopefully, the memories over last two years will live with you forever.

“Thank you, Colwyn Bay; it's been a pleasure.”
